About Us

 The Bell Story

Asylums restrained people with mental illnesses
with iron chains..these inhuman bindings were
recast into a sign of hope: the Mental Health Bell.

The local chapter of the Mental Health Association of Southwest Ohio, Inc. was established in 1918 and was incorporated in 1960. The organization changed it's name to Mental Health America of Southwest Ohio in 2010, to reflect affiliation with parent organization, Mental Health America, formerly known as the National Mental Health Association.

MHASWOH is a non-governmental voluntary organization supported by United Way, individual memberships and contributions, fund raising activities and grants.

Our mission: MHASWOH is dedicated to promoting mental health, working to prevent mental illness and substance abuse through advocacy, education, and supportive services.

Our vision: MHASWOH envisions a society in which all people live healthy lives, free from stigma and prejudice.

MHASWOH serves Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Greene, Hamilton, Highland, Preble, Montgomery, Warren and Counties in Southwest Ohio. We are an affiliate of  Mental Health America.
